UPU Industrial Engineering Student Industry Study Study at PT Inalum, Learn the Aluminum Production Process

Medan, June 26, 2025- A total of 100 students of the Potential Utama University Industrial Engineering Study Program (UPU) visited PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) in the context of industrial study activities. This visit aims to provide direct insight into the process of aluminum production, operating management, and the development of the metal industry in Indonesia.
The activity began with a warm welcome from PT Inalum's representative, which explained the company's profile, the products produced, and the strategic role of Inalum in the national and global aluminum industry. Students are also given an understanding of the production value chain, ranging from processing raw materials to the distribution of final products.
After the presentation session, students had the opportunity to attend interactive discussions with the Inalum expert team, discussing challenges and innovations in the metal industry. Not only theory, students are also invited to see firsthand the production process at several work stations, such as smelting and storage. There, they can observe the advanced technology used as well as the operational management system applied.
"This visit is very useful because we can see the application of industrial engineering in real terms, ranging from controlling production, supply chain management, to aspects of work safety," said one participant.
The Head of the UPU Indsutri Engineering Study Program, Marwan, S.Kom, M.T, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation established with PT Inalum. "This activity not only adds student insights, but also opens up opportunities for collaboration between academics and industry," he explained.
It is hoped that this visit can motivate students to continue to develop competencies in the field of industrial engineering and contribute to the progress of the Indonesian manufacturing sector in the future.
