Student of Industrial Engineering Study Program Potential Utama University Visiting PTPN 4 Bah Butong Siantar Tea Factory

Medan, May 28, 2025 - As many as 30 students of the Potential Potential University Industrial Engineering Study Program (UPU) Semester 4 along with several accompanying lecturers conducted industry visits to PTPN 4 Bah Butong Siantar Tea Factory. This activity aims to provide direct insight into the production process in the industrial world, especially tea leaves into products ready for consumption.
The group departed from Medan at 08.00 WIB and arrived at the factory location at 11.00 WIB. During the visit, students were invited to see firsthand the stages of tea processing, ranging from receiving raw materials, withering, grinding, fermentation, drying, to packaging. In addition, the team from PTPN 4 also provided a detailed explanation of the technology and production management systems implemented in the factory.
Not only observations, students were also given the opportunity to taste the tea produced by PTPN 4 Bah Butong directly. "This is a very valuable experience. We can understand the theory taught in class by looking at the practice directly in the field," said one participant.
Marwan, S.Kom., M.T, as the Chairperson of Upu Industrial Engineering Study Program, stated that this visit was part of an effort to improve student competencies. "By looking at the real industrial process, students can develop an understanding of production efficiency, quality management, and innovation in the field of industrial engineering," he explained.
This activity was closed with a group photo session and souvenirs from both parties. It is hoped that the collaboration between Upu and PTPN 4 can continue to support the development of knowledge and industrial practices among students.
